Kyai Haji

Hajj, as it’s known, is the Pilgrimage to Mecca in Islam. And Hajji is an honorific title given to a Muslim person who has successfully completed the Hajj to Mecca. In Indonesia, we call it Haji. Although all Muslims who have performed hajj deserve the title Hajji or Haji, not many of them use it. Except in Indonesia.
In Indonesia the title of Haji symbolizes more than merely a person who has done hajj. To some people, it means an upliftment of certain social status; a symbol of piousness; of pride, etc. For whatever reasons almost all Indonesian Muslims proudly add the title in front of their names. Regardless wether they’re having a secular leaning thought or pure practicing Muslims.
For Ulama or Muslim scholars, who used to be called Kyai, the title Haji is a must, without which their ulama’s cridential are questionable. Apart from that, we or they themselves, used to write their names as KH, acronym from Kyai Haji.That’s why even a secular Islamic thinker and former Indonesian president like Abdurrahman ‘Gus Dur’ Wahid wrote Kyai Haji before his name when he published his op-ed piece in the Washington Post a few weeks ago.
I hardly find that kind of fondness to Hajji title used by Indian Muslims or any other Muslims from other parts of the world

seberapa pentingkah title haji bagi umat islam indonesia? sopan atau tidakah kalo ada orang yang menunaikan haji tanpa di panggil haji? padahal antara haji, solat, puasa, zakat, dan syahadat sama2 rukun iman, tp ko hanya haji yang dikasih gelar, banyak orang melakukan solat tapi ga da satupun yang mendapatkan title S. alasannya apa mas
#gelar haji hanya khas indonesia. di luar indonesia gelar itu tak dikenal. saya kira gelar haji ini lebih terkait dg status sosial dan ekonomi daripada soal ibadah.
haji memang sebuah ritual keagamaan, karena persyaratan yang menyertainya membuat tidak semua muslim bisa meraihnya. karena keterbatasan inilah maka terkadang masih menjadi Ibadah yang wah dan mewah.
gelar haji adalah status sosial yang bisa bermakna luas tergantung pada komunitas dan penyikapanya pada gelar itu sendiri

Yeah…in Indonesia Haji is not just a religion status, but only a social status. pity.
Pergi Haji adalah salah satu rukun islam yang kelima…kalo mampu waib utk dilaksanakan…dan sekali saja itu sudah melaksanakan kelima rukun islam tersebut..lantas bagaimana jikalau menunaikan ibadah haji lebih dari satu kali ?
Jaman sekaran ini pergi menunaikan ibadah haji utk sebagian umat muslim tidak lagi dikarenakan untuk menunaikan rukun islam..melainkan hanya utk mendapatkan gelar “HAJI” semata yang nantinya dapat digunakan sebagai modal utk mendapatkan “keuntungan” hmm… luar biasa…
