Grateful Being Far Away from IsraelI love my country Indonesia simply because it’s geographically far away from Israel. How could you imagine, all of a sudden in the middle of the night an Israeli bomb are falling down like rain on monsoon season as what happens in the Gaza strip.

As it is also happening in Lebanon now. And what will you do if that happens? Nothing. Nobody, no institution even like UN can defend your sovereignty or at least your legitimate right. Because, when Israel has the appetite to kill you, in which case you are in a second away from eternity, you just simply surrender and nothing you can do about it.

And when the “little” and noisy UN wants to condemn such barbaric attacks, the mighty US are set to veto for the benefit of the its precious golden son.

I love Indonesia, because it has a very wonderful neighbours called ASEAN to which we can travel with visa-on-arrival arrangement and without being suspected as being terrorist simply because I bear the name Ahmad or Muhammad.

I love ASEAN, a group of countries who want to share anything in common, and not getting involved in each other domestic businesses, let alone doing pre-emptive strike or preaching the evangelist way.

I love Indonesia, a new full-fledged democratic country, with mess of corruption and poverty here and there; yet we have willingness to clean it up for the better future. God willing.

And I love Indonesia even more simply because we are not Gaza, not Lebanon, not Syria, not Iran. If we were in those parts of the world, we would have been called “the Axis of Evil” and rogue states by the US which will be echoed by everyone.

I am grateful. And thank God for giving us a not geographically challenged country.
