Wordpress.com Gives Away 3 GB Free Space

It seems that wordpress.com want to leave a landmark in the history and set the trend of free blogging service in the same way gmail.com did for the free email space capacity by giving away a three-gigabytes space to enable you to upload as much as any rich files you could imagine. In comparison to other free blog providers, wordpress describes it simply:
To get the same amount of space at our nearest competitor, Typepad, you’d pay at least $300 a year. Blogger only gives you 1GB. We’re doing the same thing for free.
Wordpress.com is certainly the best free blogging platform even with its previous 50 mb, for it has got many advantages than its competitor such as blogger.com / blogspot and typepad in terms of search engine friendliness. Its category and tag system enables a newbie blogger to promote one’s blog faster known at least in the wordpress.com community.
The shortcoming of wordpress, compared to blogger.com / blogspot is certainly this: it has disabled the javascript function making it impossible for its users to put anything javascript the most important being making bloggers unable to put AdSense or/anything that enable bloggers to monetize their blogs. I think this point alone that makes many bloggers still stick around blogger.com / blogspot. I’ve read sometime back Matt Mullenweg’s, wordpress founder, rationale on this: to guard wordpress.com security from malicious spammer and hacker.
Granted. But how about enabling the javascript only in the sidebar, in the widget? Is it still problem to their security? Something Matt and the wordpress.com team need to work out. Unless this happens, bloggers who uses blogger.com / blogspot for the same reasons will not be tempted to migrate and therefore the three-gb wink gesture will not have much impact. Likewise, if this–javascript-enable– occurs, we’d see the mass exodus from blogger.com / blogspot to wordpress.
Giving away a three-gb free space is absolutely a very generous gesture. To be a bit more generous by enabling the javascript, at least in the sidebar / widget, won’t hurt. There are times when “small” acts of generosity has a greater impact. This, I am quite sure, is one of those.

Kudos to Wordpress. This should make them even more popular.
every platform has its own plus advantage. In my opinion
wordpress : give big space, SEO friendly, easy to customize BUT for free wordpress cann’t add java script
Blogger:
we can add javascript but hard to modify
iya bener kata mas alhakim, kalo bisa wordpress.com bisa menaruh javascript.
Mudah-mudahan wordpress menjadi no 1 mengalahkan blogger dan yang lainnya..
Thats a great news…too bad that wordpress.com would not allow us to put advertising.
Nice info. it would be good news for wordpress fans. I just wonder why we can’t add Marquee tag on wordpress? is marquee a kind of javascript tag?
May be Mr. Fatih or anyone can help me. Thanks
Another reason why Automattic doesn’t want blog monetization in free WP.com account is to prevent the surge of spam blogs and ’scrapers’ (blogs who just copy-paste other blogs’ content via RSS). This is why I applaud their (virtually) ad-free policy, which has made WP.com the cleanest blog hosting community I’ve ever seen in the interweb (and they have great user support too!).
I’ve read somewhere that 40%-70% of blogger.com’s blogs are just spam, and blogger’s team are known for their unresponsiveness in this matter. Being No. 1 Blogging Service in terms of popularity is meaningless if most of their blogs are plain rubbish.
why WP.com can’t making money from internet? so, blogger like WP.org because of reasoning that. And some blogger like blogspot because they can make money with free hosting n domain.
good info…
Tapi kenapa wp susah sekali terima inputan java script….selalu aja gagal…cape deh…
I do not believe this
