Brians Threaded Comment Wordpress PluginsI have just added the brians’ threaded comment plugins (formerly nested comment plugins) here in this blog. I’ve planned to upload this nice plugins long ago but still couldn’t find the right time to do so or just forgot once I connect to the internet. This plugins is nice in the sense it’ll make disscussion more lively: the third commentator, for example, who wants to comment on the first comment can just easily click the “reply this comment” in the comment #1 precisely like the way mailing list works.

Unfortunately, just like any other wordpress plugins, it can only be done in a self-hosted blog. Wordpress.com, the free blog services owned by Automattic–the wordpress blogging platform  company–has yet to include it into its by-default  wordpress.com build up.

If you’re interested to install this plugins, you can download it here.  And from the installation manual you’d find how to easily install it. Here’s the excerpt:

1) Before beginning, make backup copies of [top]/wp-content/themes/[yourtheme]/comments.php
2) Copy briansthreadedcomments.php to [top]/wp-content/plugins/
3) Copy comments.php to [top]/wp-content/theme/[yourtheme]/
4) Activate brians threaded comments from the plugin page.

That should be it.

I just saw one of the blogs I regularly visited just installed this threaded comment thing. I guess I want too see it’s performance first. Anyway, mas Fatih thanks for the comments and suggestions, I have installed and am currently using some of the plugins you recommended. However, I did not understand the meaning of pretty link you said before and could not find it in afatih.wordpress.com. Can you elaborate more on it?

yap, it’s me, I decided to use my real name in my blog but still keep using my pseudonym when in others’. I think I got clearer picture of it now, thank you very much then.

Glad to hear that Yuki. Some bloggers who oppose to my urge to use true name & identity (NOT anonymous), particularly for critical blogger, are either they’re unable to have a clear picture, to absorb the real attention of what I meant or are just pretend not to understand. or sometimes it just takes time.

but my real target is not those “old” anonymous bloggers. my real intention is to guide the new bloggers who yet to get “pollutied” by seniority syndrom to start blogging with good intention and responsibility one indication of which is by NOT blogging pseudonymously.

Mas Fatih, sorry to keep asking for your help, haha. I checked the link you gave me, and I found that the steps I have to follow to make a “pretty link” are pretty difficult. I have no special knowledge on that field.

Therefore, I just finally created (borrowing that link’s terminology) “almost pretty link” based on the information I got in http://blog.taragana.com/index.php/archive/wordpress-tip-on-permalink-options

Do you think it is also good? Thank you for your help.

If you can make /index.php/archive/… actually you can make the pretty link as well.

    Just follow this step:

Options -> permalinks -> check the “Name and Date Based” -> click “Update permalink structure” -> Done.

Oh ok. but if you want to try once more, you can edit the .httaccess via FTP (if you know this stuff) by right-click it and make it 666 -> save

through ftp, .httaccess resides at public_html (click it) -> .httaccess -> right-click -> file attributes -> check all the read and write which will make the number 666. then click OK. that will make your httaccess writable by wordpress.

    wish you luck!

    Salam’alaikum Bang Fatih.

Another way to sort comments and make them more readable and sticky is to tag them.
There is new plugin quite promising which does exactly that.
It is called commentag (http://www.commentag.com) and it allows to tag comments to keep discussions sorted.
They use that on TheNextWeb.org and it is a great add-on!
