Wordpress 2.6 Tyner

Wordpress 2.6 released today and announced officially by Matt Mullenweg, the wordpress founder. I know it when I wanted to write a post, there is a link comes up at the top of “write post” menu announcing the release of Wordpress Version 2.6 “Tyner,” named for jazz pianist McCoy Tynerand, urging wordpress blogging platform users to update it. Peter Hagopian of Information Week has a good wrap-up of wordpress 2.6 main features (and bug fixes):
The main new features for Wordpress 2.6 are Post Revisions, which allows comparisons of current and older versions of content, Press This, a bookmarklet that simplifies the process of creating links to other content and sites, Google (NSDQ: GOOG) Gears support, which speeds up many editing functions by using a local cache for certain pages, and Theme Preview support, which allows the admin to preview what their site will look with a new user interface without pushing it live. These are all welcome additions, and they build on top of any already mature, feature-rich foundation.
The minor enhancements are the icing on the cake for 2.6. What You See Is What You Get (WYSIWYG) editing is generally improved with better image support, integrated word counts and revamped TinyMCE. A number of security improvements have also made it in, including improved SSL support as well as some improvements to cookies and database interactions.
For those wordpress users who were not satisfied with wp 2.5+ this announcement is a relief. It seems the Wordpress team listens to many criticism around regarding wordpress 2.5. For example, categories menu is now back to a place where it belongs that is in the right side of posting box.
Here are some more salient features:
- Word count!
- A completely revamped image control to allow for easier inserting, floating, and resizing. It’s now fully integrated with the WYSIWYG.
- Drag-and-drop reordering of Galleries
- Customizable default avatars.
- You can now have many thousands of pages or categories with no interface issues.
- Version 2.6 fixes approximately 194 bugs.

So, happy upgrading everyone!
[Edit] I’ve just upgraded into Wordpress 2.6 tyner just few weeks ago but I still dissatisfied with it. The problem I face is still not addressed that is I still cannot copy or “select all” anything in the Text Widget. Tell you what, WordPress 2.6.1 Beta 1 has arrived! I need to know if this newest version address that problem.
