Forbes 2008 World Most Powerful Women
Posted on September 20, 2008
Forbes magazine has this habit to rank the world prominent personalities in various categories and field of influences even on gender basis. This time around Forbes present 100 most powerful women in the world. Prior to this, Forbes has presented the Top 100 Richest People in the World and Top Richest Royals.
Interesting to note, especially for Indonesian, that an Indonesian woman that is Sri Mulyani Indrawati, Indonesia’s Coordinating minister for economic affairs and finance minister, has been ranked at no. 23 ahead of such prominent women as Gloria Arroyo, President of the Philippines, ranked at no. 41, Hillary Rodham Clinton (no. 28), Nancy Pelosi, US Speaker of House of Representative (no. 35), Oprah Winfrey (no. 36), Aung San Suu Kyi of Myanmar (no. 38). You may wonder why.
Here’s what Forbes has to say:
Since Indrawati’s 2005 appointment as Indonesia’s finance minister, the country’s foreign exchange reserves reached an all-time high of $50 billion, and foreign investment skyrocketed. She has fought against government corruption, created tax incentives and simplified investment laws. Her performance earned her a promotion. In June Indrawati was named to run the country’s economic affairs. — Kate Macmillan

PERTAMAX!! (baru posting soal pertamax)
oh i’m sorry, shit!, could you belive to Fobes that our minister rank is higher then Oprah Winfrey??
Most of the powerful women in the world comes from U.S.. What Happen? is anybody up there except U.S can do this?
great, our Coordinating minister for economic Sri Mulyani got highr Rank too.. i think indonesia should get more people contribute there.. like Megawati and Khofifah Parawansa..
Wow, that’s what i’m talking about.. we got our economic minister there. but, why just one, i think in indonesia its so many powerful woman. i hope forbes can see it soon. smile
masuknya menteri keuangan itu membuktikan kapasitas orang Indonesia.
Fatih…
Nothing surprising in the high ranking. It is warranted on all counts. Yet, if you think about it perhaps she could have ranked even higher considering that she is responsible for the economic welfare of more than 220 million people and that she is the point woman on all things to do with the economy in Indonesia.
Maybe there should be a movement created along the lines of “Sri Mulyani Indrawati for President”…
well actually i prefer FADILAH SUPARI than SRI MULYANI. Do you know how “tough” she is?
Depends on what you mean by tough.
If you mean she is tough for writing a book suggesting that bird flu is the work of the divine hand of God and that there is a conspiracy by Western nations to manipulate the bird flu into a biological weapon for use against predominantly Muslim nations, then the Minister of Health is one tough woman!
If that’s not what you mean, then how is she tough?
Despite on all the contraversion, at least she has done something to the nation and the world has seen her hardwork. We have to be proud of her and let’s hope there will be another Sri Mulyani in the future
wow, it’s amazing to see our minister published in forbes. i’g glad to see that. i’ll be waiting for the powerful man in the world, maybe Mr. Fatihsyuhud will show up there..hehehe
@rob: that’s what i mean
there are many women most powerfully In Indonesia not only Mrs Mulyani
Go,..Go Ahead Indonesian Woman,
Keep Spirit!
Actually thera are many wonderful Indonesian woman. Congrats Bu Menteri
I th ink its because Sri Mulyani have many connection with people out there.
And she has ability to make some change on our country economic
Wow I can’t believe they put Sri Mulyani above Hillary Clinton. How could that be? But, congrats for her. Hebat!
wew….. sri mulyani ….
I can’t believe for that ….
but I think this is the real for indonesian
awesome ………..
One of our duties have been done by a woman. A mother with a great ability who will help this country into a better life. Congratulations, Madam!
We proud of you. I, a kid who will always try to follow the way you thinking, promise to do the best. To fill up every day and every time with study. I wish!
hueheuheu…
Semoga pengertian “paling berkuasa” disini berkorelasi dengan arti “paling berguna”.
oh..where is Bouthania shaban from Syria…she’s cool too..
Dear,Sir,Madam First I must solicit your confidence in this transaction;my name is Mr John Peters a staff of Bank here in London,UK.I have a confidential business proposal that will benefit both of us,I believe that I can trust you with the information am about to reveal to you.I decided to contact you based on,you bear the same surname with the depositor. There is this business opportunity here in our bank;there is an abandoned sum of $19m US dollars(Nineteen million US dollars)that belongs to one of our foreign customer who died along with his family on 25ThDecember2003in a ghastly motor accident along Ambur express road with his wife and two children.Since we got information about his death,we have been expecting his next of kin to come over and claim his money which is deposited in our security deposit safe vault. The management has been searching for a relative or member of the family to notify them about this deposit. But up till now we have not been able to trace any members of this family. The management can not release it unless somebody applies for it as next of kin or relation to the deceased as indicated in our banking guideline but unfortunately I learns that all his family died alongside with him at the car accident leaving nobody behind for the claim.Since you have same surname with the deceased customer you can easily make a deal with me.It is therefore upon this discovery that I decided to intimate you on this business proposition so that you will apply as a relation to the deceased customer for safety and subsequent disbursement since nobody coming for it and don’t want this money to go into the Bank treasury as unclaimed funds or declared to the government of UK,which they will confiscate it.The request of a foreigner as next of kin in this business is occasioned by the fact that the customer was a foreigner, and it will be better for you to stand as a relation to the customer. My colleagues and I here in the bank are the only people that has knowledge about this transaction,we have agreed that35% of this money will be for you as foreign partner,in respect to the provision of a foreign account, while 65% would be for my colleagues and I here in the bank. There after I will visit your country for the sharing according to the percentages indicated. Therefore to enable the immediate transfer of these funds to you as arranged, you must apply first to the bank as relation or next of kin of the deceased indicating your application for the withdrawal of these funds to your nominated bank account.Upon receipt of your reply,I will send to you via fax or emanate next of kin application form and also send to me your private telephone and fax number for easier communication. There are practically no risks involved, the transaction will be executed under a legitimate arrangement that will protect you from any breach of law.I plead with you on one issue, whether you are interested or not, kindly do not expose this information to any one.PLZ GET BACK TO ME THROUGH MY/Private Email:johnpeters78@yahoo.com Best Regards,Mr.JOHN peters
Congratuliation..Ms. Srimulyati Indrawati.
Ternyata…wanita di negara kita hanya koar-koar saja tanpa reputasi international…..
menarik sekali..selamat buat Sri Mulyani Indrawati…
Angela Merkel as no 1. not surprised with her. She is such a great woman
She is’nt a powerfull women in Indonesia, I think!
There are many powerfull women in Indonesia,
ex: Mamah Dedeh, Teh Ninih hehehe…
I think Forbes is a racist magazine.
That said, I’m glad to see so many women from Asia and across the globe.
Good job ladies!
bagi saya Aung San Suu Kyi of Myanmar is the best.

I think it is fair enough to put our Minister of Finance in the list above Oprah Winfrey. Is there any significant performance of Oprah Winfrey to make her rank better ?? I don’t know for sure….
This Rank must become the spirit for Indonesian Woman.
