Most Corrupt Countries 2008
Posted on September 24, 2008
Being a frontrunner in a good thing is a dream comes true for any achiever. It’s true also if such achievement or underachievement is awarded to a nation or country. An award which is actually not personal but could affect a mixed feeling for any person in earch country ranked by Transparency International yearly report through its Corruption Perceptions Index (CPI) 2008 as being the less or most corrupt. Each individual is happy to see one’s country being in the cleanest category and is ashame to see otherwise. Among ASEAN countries, Singapore people should be proud to be at no. 4 in the world followed by Malaysia (47), Thailand (80), Vietnam (121), Indonesia (126) [1], Philippines (141), Timor Leste (145), Laos (151), Cambodia (166), Myanmar (178). The lower the number stands for the less corrupt a country is and vice versa.
Listed below is the 2008 Most Corrupt Nation by Transparency International, a global graft watchdog.

Explanatory notes*
Transparency International commissioned Prof. Dr J. Graf Lambsdorff of the University of Passau to produce the CPI table. For information on data and methodology, please consult the frequently asked questions and the CPI methodology or www.icgg.org.
* CPI Score relates to perceptions of the degree of corruption as seen by business people and country analysts, and ranges between 10 (highly clean) and 0 (highly corrupt).
** Confidence range provides a range of possible values of the CPI score. This reflects how a country’s score may vary, depending on measurement precision. Nominally, with 5 percent probability the score is above this range and with another 5 percent it is below. However, particularly when only few sources are available, an unbiased estimate of the mean coverage probability is lower than the nominal value of 90%.
*** Surveys used refers to the number of surveys that assessed a country’s performance. 13 surveys and expert assessments were used and at least 3 were required for a country to be included in the CPI.

[1] On positive note, this is slightly better compared to all previous years. For example have a look at the TI CPI of 2005 (at 137), 2006 (at 130), and 2007 (at 142). Where should the credit go? Should it go to President SBY or KPK or someone else?

Alhamdulillah.. Our rank is better then before, we hope togather, for the next year Indonesia doesn’t include in top 100 Most Coeeupt Countries.. Amin.
KPK, where are YOU ?
indonesia hebat euy..
semoga bisa jadi negara yang antikurupsi..amiin..
tambah naik apa turun ya?
Thanks God that we are not the worst country in the world in terms of corruption. This could be as a result from KPK works, even though we know that it has not been really efficient. Few things to be remembered that the corruption has been occurred since the past few decades and we are going to have a long journey to exterminate this corruption issue in our country.
Be optimist with the going on process and let’s start it from ourself
corruptors must be shot dead. don’t be so happy cause of our position. it’s possible to change to the last number. but we hope will not.
It would take a very long long journey for our country to be in the Top 10.
Let’s support KPK for better rank on the next year…
i worked in Laos, and it’s kinda difficult to believe that they are more corrupt than us.
maybe we have bribed TI to put us in a better rank than them. LOL
(kidding everybody..:D)
the latest news from ICW (International corruption watch), indonesia’s rank going up to step from the commen news.. it’s really embaracing
I’m so ashame.. what they’d thinking for they people,. i think it can be more and more if our government let this thing happen, especially our corruption committe of indonesia. i hope it can be better soon.. hope indonesia become the true clean country that we’ve ever had…
what about the silent corrupt? like corrupt of time, corrupt of energy in office?
If confidence in the abilities of the KPK is increasing and the amount of corruption is being reduced then this is progress.
At 126 on a list of 180 this is a significant improvement.
As the saying goes, Rome was not built in a day! It is going to take time to overcome the institutionalized corruption and the corrupt practices that developed over the almost 32 years of Soeharto’s dictatorial rule.
It is a reasonable request that the KPK be given the opportunity to prove its worth in the corruption fight. It is a fight that the KPK will ultimately win.
Corruption can never be eradicated and the fact that there are no perfect marks in the surveys used reflect this.
I think it’s all because the good work by KPU
Well, honestly we have to admit that our government especially tax and customs officials make a little bit advancement to make our country even better in corruption perceptions index.
Oh….Mr.Antasari…what do you think about.
KPK…where are you..
Bulan romadlon bulan suci yuk kita introspeksi diri ,tambah iman tambah jujur insya ALLAH KORUPSI KITA TINGGALKAN/KURANGI
Nice website.
I can’t believe that Riau has large number of Corruptor..

hehe..
He.. he.. indon masuk urutan 126. Mending lah.. Artinya negri ini emang perlu di-re-formasi. Yuk kita tunggu survei nya di tahun depan.
Om.. kalo dibandingin tahun kemarin gimana? Diman posisi kita tahun kemarin?
we still corrupt ! oh no
Being a Kiwi, its pretty easy to get smug about these indicies, but… They are by definition very flawed, because they measure perception. Case in point: the USA, which ranks very high, 18th. The US political system is corrupted to the point that you have to wonder whether it’s really democracy.
moga aja peringkatnya gak naik ke 10 besar..
budayakan malu, dan jujur…
KPK,, laksanakan konsekwensimu……
Hehehehehe………..
It’s interesting. I thought some of the countries below Indonesia were above us
taufik ismail was right; ‘i am shy to be an indonesian’
I’m happy to know Indonesia could improve its position on that list, I just spent four months in Indonesia and watched how KPK successfully arrested more and more corrupt politicians.
I have to congratulate them and wish they could arrest those involved in BLBI case.
Hopefully, KPK is always keep his eyes opened, so that Indonesia govt become cleaner and cleaner..
Sorry Change my ID
Ohh…Go ahead KPK,,,no corrupt should in indonesia.
Alhamdulillah…
Tingkat Korupsi Indonesia Sudah Turun…
syukur…alhamdulillah…go…go…indonesia…we can if think we can.!
Mari kita dukung KPK.
Modus Proyek jaman dulu,

great work its good to see people from Indonesia come up and make a blog
I thought denmark was the most corrupt country so its on top i read it again and found it was the most transparent.
I’m glad to see the Indonesian corruption watch. they proved their capability for now on.
good job for KPK. keep struggling for our lovely country.
I believe that the mentality of Indonesians are systematically built to be corrupt. Through the educational system, through the culture, and ultimately, through the mass media.
It’s sad to see the biggest Muslim populated country being so materialistic and so far away from Islam. It will take more than just KPK to totally eradicate corruption in Indonesia. We need a more fundamental approach.
just my two cents.
I believe Indonesia are able to get better future,
