Blogger Indonesia of the Week (83): Rima Fauzi

Rima Fauzi blogger of the week # 82World is beautiful, every normal and spirited being thinks so. The most salient feature of its beauty lies in the heterogeneity of its populace called human. The differences of our physical appearance, colors of our skin, our eyes and hairs. And on top of it all: the differences of our mindset, preference, leaning and way of thinking we attach to or led or want others to believe. Thus emerges various religions brought about by many prophets, school of thoughts introduced by many great philosophers. It’s natural therefore if every single religion and philosophical thoughts for or against any religion have their own followers. It also means that we have choices to choose to lead our life. Afterall, life is about choice and world gives us freedom to choose. Whatever you wanna be, just be it.

Blogger Indonesia of the Week (82): Sherwin Tobing

Christiaan Snouck Hurgronje (1857-1936) is a Dutch scholar of Oriental cultures and languages and Advisor on Native Affairs to the colonial government of the-so-called Netherlands East Indies, that is Indonesia, One of his famous advice to the Dutch colonial authority to win Indonesian Muslim’s heart and mind was by “tolerating  the spiritual aspects of Islam but containing rigorously Islam’s political expression. ”

What is the implicit meaning of that advice?

Threaded Comment Wordpress Plugins

Brians Threaded Comment Wordpress PluginsI have just added the brians’ threaded comment plugins (formerly nested comment plugins) here in this blog. I’ve planned to upload this nice plugins long ago but still couldn’t find the right time to do so or just forgot once I connect to the internet. This plugins is nice in the sense it’ll make disscussion more lively: the third commentator, for example, who wants to comment on the first comment can just easily click the “reply this comment” in the comment #1 precisely like the way mailing list works.

Unfortunately, just like any other wordpress plugins, it can only be done in a self-hosted blog. Wordpress.com, the free blog services owned by Automattic–the wordpress blogging platform  company–has yet to include it into its by-default  wordpress.com build up.

Blogger Indonesia of the Week (81): Marisa Duma

Marisa Duma Blogger Indonesia of the Week # 81Many Indonesian bloggers are basically not trained in general writing skill, not to say in journalism. It’s understandable given the fact that a blog is, shall we say, citizen journalism. A blogger sometimes just writes whatever he/she wants to write, improperly written notwithstanding. Despite Seth Godin reminds us that  ”if you can write what you talk you would be a prolific writer” I believe that writing skill somehow is still needed for a serious blogger to make a blogger’s thought more “shiny”, more easily understood and have a stronger expression.

Blogger Indonesia of the Week (80): Rob Baiton

Rob Baiton as Blogger Indonesia of the Week #80Frankly speaking, I dislike anonymous blogger or ghost blogger as I prefer to call it, particularly those who blog/write on such sensitive issues as politics and religion. Speaking of the latter topic without giving a clear name and identity, to me, does not represent a good intention, and thus credibility. A writer or a blogger who rigorously writes on those issues while hiding one’s true identity and name –such as the one behind indonesiamatters.com deserves our suspicion of having a hidden agenda. Specially when one is critical to certain  religion while generously flattering or defending another most of the time.

Blogger Indonesia of the Week (79): Ryan Octavianus

Ryan Octavianus as Blogger Indonesia of the Week #79One thing that I always suggest every new blogger who asks me as to how to be a prolific blog writer is that: don’t be too obsessed with a long tiring post and a lot of comments. As far as blogging, quality content neither lies in a quantity of words nor depends much on many comments. Rather it’s on how new and enlightening your idea in a particular blog post is. That’s what a quality blog content is all about. Many famous blog writer or blogger, such as Instapundit with 100k unique visitors/day is making a brief post most of the time and with no comment at all.

Blogger Indonesia of the Week (78): Abdullah Alwazin

Abdullah Alwazin (Wazeen) as Blogger Indonesia of the Week #78Some few blogs I have reviewed were run by young Indonesians who are yet to finish their undergrad studies.  Obviously I am looking forward to reviewing a lot more good quality content blogs by Indonesian young bloggers as they represent the future of the country and the nation. Actually I saw many of them, the problem being majority of such blogs are written in Bahasa Indonesia, not in English.

Blogger Indonesia of the Week (77): Anita Carmencita

Anita Carmencita McCay as Blogger Indonesia of the Week #77Some Indonesians still cannot accept the reality of a few Indonesian who stay abroad after they had done their study in order to get a better job or for some other reasons such as marriage . The former think the reluctant to go back to their home country on the part of the latter as a sign of unpatriotic and opportunistic attitude. In several of my postings, I defended the latter wholeheartedly, saying not only did they at times are more patriotic than the former, their stay abroad are sometimes needed even for the so-called “patriotic” reasons. The brain drain it may cause, as some Indonesian expert worry about does not in any way make sense to say the least.

Blogger Indonesia of the Week (76): Willy Sudiarto Raharjo

Willy Sudiarto Raharjo Blogger Indonesia of the Week #76To encourage new bloggers to be more active in posting their potentially precious thoughts, I wrote a blogging tip here that writing a paragraph-long posting is just as good as the longer one provided it covers the main idea you want to convey in that brief piece. Previously, I reviewed a blog belong to Alaya Setya who loves making a brief posting. Another case in point is a blog run by a techno geek Willy Sudiarto Raharjo who, like Alaya Setya, seems to like brief posting–one or two paragraphs each  post–and yet he makes his point clear from the very first sentence of every post. This is important, if you intend to make a brief post, make to the point of whatever you want to say, to make your message get accross to the intended audience, indeed to all readers of your blog.
