Top Blogger Indonesia of the Week Top quality content English blogs written by Indonesian bloggers around the world.

List of Blogger Indonesia of the Week, Blogger Indonesia of the Year and the requirements to get reviewed.

I make a blogger of the week (BOW)’s feature as a way to encourage, appreciate and promote Indonesian bloggers who blog in English.

  1. How to Get Reviewed
  2. Top Ten Blogger Indonesia of the Year
  3. List of Blogger of the Week

I. How to Get Reviewed

The requirement to get reviewed is simple: (a) Your blog is written in English or Bahasa Indonesia; (b) The blogger is using original name or so it seems; pseudonym or ghostname blogger will not be considered unless for specific reasons; (c) Blogging frequently; (d) The content is original and not commercial (blog about career, vacancy (lowongan kerja), scholarship (beasiswa), etc won’t be considered).

So, if you are an Indonesian and have an English-speaking blog and you feel it fits the above criteria, it’d be of great help if you put your blog URL address in the comment box below along with a brief intro. In the next few weeks, it could be your blog turn to be reviewed. Keep blogging, writing and sharing your precious thoughts.

Any non-Indonesian who blogs a lot on Indonesia are also eligible to get reviewed provided  the blogger gives a clear identity. At least, clear name and from which country he/she belongs and why he/she blogs about Indonesia.

II. Top Ten Indonesian Bloggers of the Year

Each year, I also award the Top Ten Blogger of the Year for English-speaking Indonesian blogger whose blogs I already reviewed as Blogger Indonesia of the Week. Another Concept of Blogging

Being Humble and Down-to-Earth

For those who face difficulties in finding their opinions/writings get published in a newspaper or magazine, blog could be an effective medium to self-publishing as a starting point, in the hope that one day one or two editors will find their writings and get attracted to it and publish it.
Photo: By blogging, Indonesian intellectuals and other ‘celebrities’ would not & should not be the ivory towers anymore.

For those who used to write personal diary in a locked-diary note book, blog is certainly a much safer place to scribble their scattered thoughts and feelings.

And for those who used to enjoy sitting in an ivory tower like eminent government officials and DPRs or MPs, famous columnists, serious academicians and celebrities, blog could be beneficial and very effective tools to interact with their readers and “fans” and treat them as 100% equals by voluntarily responding back to each of their readers queries; linking back to their readers who link their blogs and even visiting their readers blogs.

Thus, for the famous personalities, blogging could be a learning medium for being humble and down-to-earth, in case they havent already got one… Treating their “fans” in equal terms certainly not an easy task for those who are getting used to be idolized and treated like prince or princess. In the long term, it (being humble) certainly pays off in a big way.

As an ordinary blogger, I consider myself very fortunate to have several good relationship with the famous personalities. The blog makes it happen. Several emails from several eminent personalities within Indonesia or non-Indonesians–who already have blog or just as a visitor– come to my email inbox. The advantages of blogging certainly not only limited to the one I just mention, there must be many more to come. And we’re looking forward to seeing it in the days ahead…

Hi there,

I am a young female Australian blogger living and working in South West Java. I started writing a blog when i first moved to indonesia at the end of last year on a whim – I threw myself in the deep end to see if I could swim. With no knowledge of the country, the culture, the religion, I landed in a tiny muslim fishing village with a backpack and I fell in love with the country.

I am forever interested in this beautiful country and the incredible people that inhabit it. I’ve loved reading through your past posts about the culture and I’ve found some of the posts exceptionally useful. If you trawl through my past posts you will find an ecletic mix of posts about religion, culture, assimilation, adjustments, trials and tribulations and general fun and anectdotes.

I love this country and I’d love to be considered as your blogger of the week.

Kindest regards,
Sash Milne.

Hi there,

I discovered your site for the first time today, and it’s very interesting to trawl through your past posts. I’m very interested in Indonesian culture, religion and people. I am a young Australian girl who moved to Indonesia at the end of last year and I have been blogging about my experience living in a small muslim fishing village in South West Java since I arrived.

I’d love to be considered for your blogger of the week – if you look through my past posts you will see a very ecletic combination of posts that deal with day to day life in Indonesia, religion, culture, ideals and fun times. I am sponsored by lonely planet as an international blogger, I have a featured interview coming out on Pocket Cultures this week and I am strongly involved in work for the UN and the Protection of International culture and respect.

I hope to hear back from you to maintain a relationship for the future.

Kindest regards,
Sash Milne.

Mas Fatih, I’m a newbie blogger. Love your blog for a lot of things to learn there.

I’ve written my blog in English because I want to reach to more people. The blog address is:

The content of the blog would be around career development, work and life management as a working mom. I wonder if my blog would meet your criteria to be reviewed, as the subject is about career and it is the type that wou would exclude from the review. Anyway, it would be an honour if you could just drop by and check out my blog, eventhough you were not going to review it for a while.

In the meantime, I would like to link to your blog. But I may need sometime to learn on how to do that… Hehehe…

akhlis August 30, 2009 Reply

Hi,everybody…I started blogging three weeks ago and now have 2 blogs.Thank God, both of them are written in English. The first one ( is dedicated to anyone interested in learning English and the second ( is a Korean learning blog. Learning foreign languages is my passion and I think there’s nothing better than doing something with our flamming passions. It’s definitely fun to make money by doing things we’re passionate about, isn’t it?
In terms of language, I have relatively nothing to worry about, literally. But I find technical stuffs (like editing templates using some lines of codes or widgets or whatever you may call it) so complicated.. I feel like I was a moron :) I do want to customize my blog’s look, theme, layout, add some widgets, but so far I’ve made very little progress. But that’s fine as I don’t want to rush. We can’t rush success, so i decide to enjoy the ‘trip’ to be a pro blogger…just like the man writing this superb blog.
I spotted some commentators above objecting to the requirements you propose, particularly about the 1st one. Do you think a blogger writing in English has less nationalism than those writing in Indonesian? As sometimes I feel guilty not to blog using my native tongue…But as a matter of fact, I have my own reason. Like you said before, blogging in English enables us to get our ideas across better, and I strongly believe in that.
Let me say that this blog is like blogging bible to me. I can find almost anything I need here…so lucky to know this blog! :)

#you’ve got a blog with quality content. thanks to let me know

akhlis November 1, 2009 Reply

Thank you so much, mas Fatih.I’m truly flaterred, indeed. It’s been 2 months and a half since the first time I wrote my maiden post on my blog. But as time goes by, I have solved my previously mentioned technical problems, thanks to your elaborate post on how to add widgets and java scripts. I’d never thought that’s a piece of cake, really! :D
And like I said, all I want to do is enjoying this trip. It’s not about the destination but more about the travel, the journey. The road is steep but attractively challenging. Blogging is one of my reasons to stay alive. Hahaha…

I was just starting to write a blog in English. I’d be delighted if you could come and visit, perhaps giving some pointers if you have spare time :) (I’m sure you’re a busy person, so no pressure hehe)

This is the link:

The reason I wrote in English might be cliché, perhaps it’s in the same vein as your objective to write yours in English. To show people the different aspects of life in Indonesia. As an alternative view from the mainstream media who often times portray our country in a tinted glass.

Kind Regards,

Heru Rishardana

Kurniadi Widodo January 13, 2008 Reply

Hey there Fatih, I happened to stumble upon your blog somehow (already forgot why, was just randomly following links in other blogs) and eventually got to this page…

See, I have a blog written in English, despite the majority of the readers (if any) being Indonesian. But the thing is… my blog isn’t exactly like most other blogs, which are mainly about writings. My blog is mainly about photos. I’m a photography student, and consequently my interest lays in anything photography related. I don’t write about politics (never understands one bit of it) I don’t write about the recent development of a national issue. I don’t write about entertainments. In fact, I write about something that most people wouldn’t get. And once again, the writing is rather minimal… you can say that while most people express themselves by writings in their blogs, I express myself through my photographs. Will it still be eligible in this ‘project’?

Anyway, I’m not usually interested in participating in the blogosphere scene for the reasons mentioned above… but you’re supporting a good cause and I agree with your points so I figure I’d give it a shot. At the very least I guess I can show you that there are these kind of blogs too in Indonesia. Oh yes there are many others like me. :) Cheers from Jogja, sir!

Mas Fatih,
At first, I wrote in English only to improve my skills in it. But since I’ve found the pleasure of blogging and how much I like to share my thoughts with other people, I finally created my new blog on the beginning of 2008. It’s about my life experiences and hope it could brighten someone’s mind.

Considering I’m a new blogger, I still have to learn many many things, but hope you have time to check it out:
